Consideration in Ramadan

Assalamu Alaykum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh

One of the virtues of this month is learning to be better muslims in every sense, decrease our sins, increase our good deeds. Some muslims, even if it's only for a month apply this quite well, they completely change their behaviour and habits and some of them, keep it after Ramadan, subhana Allah! But there is something that never changes in any Ramadan, people sharing their food, sharing everything they do with their families, even if it's to praise them, where is the consideration for your fellow brothers and sisters?

First of all, think about the time zones, while you are able to eat, others must be in the middle of their fast, don't make it harder for them that it already is!
Second thing, not all muslims in the world have a family to be with, not all of us have the blessings that most of you see normal and are taking for granted, not all of us can have a proper Iftar or a proper Suhoor, why do you think about us too?

I'm a revert muslim, I'm alone in my family and they don't allow me to believe in what I believe, not to say they allow me to fast, I can't but I try everyday. When I fast and Iftar time comes, all I have is a normal dinner as any other day at home, this dinner I can't eat it all, why? because I need to eat something at Suhoor too, what do I do? After all day fasting, I eat half of my dinner and save the other half so I have something "heavy" to eat at Suhoor.. this is how my Ramadan goes and this are the days there is something to cook, not always is like this, sometimes dinner is just a sandwich so what's left for the next morning?

This is not for lack of money or food, but because as a revert I have to hide what I am doing. So when I see all of you, either complaining for the food, overeating and complaining after that (which is not right, Ramadan is not a food festival, you HAVE TO feel the hunger and thirst to do it properly, you just need to eat to recover the energy not to simply fill your stomach as much as you can because "I won't be able to eat tomorrow", that's the point !! You have to feel your empty stomach! Eat things that benefit you not just fill yourself. This post might interest you.) this breaks me down, I have nothing, no family to support me, or anything else, and you got it all and not only spread it like if it was nothing but also complain? TAKE US INTO CONSIDERATION.
You are blessed, Alhamdulillah, but no need to show it all, Muslims must have empathy.
The Prophet told us to not boast, not not have pride, apply this, why do you forget it during this time?

Ramadan is not always as amazing as it is for most families, most of us are alone, most of us have a hard time here, this causes us to be sad and down, this is not like a Ummah should be.

Ramadan Is Here / Ramadán está aquí

Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh

Common mistakes in Ramadhan:           Errores comunes en Ramadan:

1. Drinking "rooh afza" on a daily basis

- Why: It contains high amounts of sugar, additives and colarants
- Solution: If you have to, drink it twice a week maximum

1. Beber "Rooh afza" diariamente.

2. Drinking large amounts of water at iftaar time

- Why: Filling the stomach with water is more strenuous to it than with food.
- Solution: have a few sips at iftaar then a glass after every two hours. (
I would reduce it to one hour or half if there are not much time until suhor)

3. Exercising directly after iftaar.

- Why: the body's blood flow is concentrated around the stomach at that time.
- Solution: Exercise after two hours of eating to ease digestion.

4. Chewing and swallowing food fast.

- Why: chewing food slowly can speed up digestion and help maintain your weight

5. Having dessert directly after iftaar

-Why: they make you drowsy and sleepy
- Solution: leave at least a two hour gap between iftaar and dessert to stay fresh and awake for prayers

6. Consuming foods with high amounts of sodium

- Why: Sodium triggers thirst through out the fasting hours of the day
- Solution: instead, eat foods that are high in potassium, they retain water and suppress your thirst.

# Bananas are high in potassium. A banana at Suhoor time can control your thirst level through out the day.

Ramadan (3)

Assalamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullah Wa Barakatuh

Ramadan is not the month to lose weight, Ramadan is not the month of stopping eating and drinking during the daylight and then at night eat like there is not tomorrow.
That's the respect you have for this blessed month? Think about it.

Fasting has a meaning, a deep meaning that we must understand and the only way to understand it is doing it properly.

The purpose of fasting during the ninth month of the Islamic Calendar (Ramadan) is to put us in the skin of those people who doesn't have anyting to eat in their daily life, to know and FEEL their struggle, daily struggle. The only way for us to understand this is to fast for more than one or two days, to being conscious of it. So, if you eat like there is not tomorrow when you have the chance to do so, did you learn something? I don't think so.

"Eat and drink, but be not excessive. Indeed, He likes not those who commit excess" [Al Qur'aan, 7:31]
Another purpose of Ramadan is, as we feel hungry and thirsty (we should), we learn to be more considerated with others (to share), as we know now how they suffer, we must appreaciate the blessings we have, small or big, we have been blessed. We have to be grateful for this, Alhamdulillah, we can break our fast but many other people can't, many of your brothers and sisters can't break their fast because they have not the blessing you are taking for granted. Are you grateful?

There are more, now you know why you fast, now you know that you have been blessed, now you know that you are loved by Allah, are you using your blessings adequately?
Are you helping those in need? Are you feeding the poor? Are you donating everything you don't need?

Now that you are conscious of their pain, imagine this: Imagine you are the one in their condition, you are the one who has nothing to break the fast, to eat or drink, you have nothing to give to your children, your wife, husband, mother, father, sister, brother.... you need help, would you like to be helped? I think so. Who can help? Someone that has a bit more than you, right?

YOU are the one with "that bit more" that can help them!!
Allah encourage us to do this, we have to be united, some have nothing, they are being tested with patience and persistence in their faith, some have everything, they are being tested for their generosity and capacity to help those who need it. WE ARE ALL BEING TESTED IN A WAY OR ANOTHER.

The greater the blessing the greater your responsibility towards the Ummah. Please use your blessings in a useful way, it's your key to Jannah

Let's change this Ramadan to better, let's make the best of it, let's make Allah proud of us, let's make the right Angel work so much day and night and let's make the left Angel be fired! In shaa Allah!

Some Hadiths:

  • Riyad as-Salihin, The Book About the Etiquette of Eating
    Book 3, Hadith 755
    Narrated 'Abu Hurairah (ra):
Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said, "The food of two persons suffices for three persons, and the food of three persons suffices for four persons." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

  • Riyad as-Salihin, The Book About the Etiquette of Eating
Book 3, Hadith 756
Narrated 'Jabir bin 'Abdullah (ra):
Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said, "The food of one person suffices for two, the food of two persons suffices for four persons, and the food of four persons suffices for eight persons." [Muslim].

  • Riyad as-Salihin, The Book About the Etiquette of Eating
Book 3, Hadith 758
Narrated 'Ibn 'Abbas (ra):
Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said, "Do not drink in one gulp like a camel, but in two or three (gulps). Mention the Name of Allah (i.e., say Bismillah) when you start drinking and praise Him (i.e., say Al-hamdu lillah) after you have finished (drinking)." [At- Tirmidhi].

In shaa Allah!

    Libro 3, Hadiz 755

Ramadan (2)

Assalamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Muslim calendar.

The Month of Ramadan is also when it is believed the Holy Quran "was sent down from heaven, a guidance unto men, a declaration of direction, and a means of Salvation".

It is during this month that Muslims fast. It is called the Fast of Ramadan and lasts the entire month. Ramadan is a time when Muslims concentrate on their faith and spend less time on the concerns of their everyday lives.

The elderly, sick, and mentally ill are exempt from the fasting. Also exempt are pregnant women, women during the period of their menstruation, and women nursing their newborns. In some Muslim communities, people who miss the fasting portion of Ramadan are expected to compensate by feeding the poor and unfortunate during the suhoor and iftar meals.

During the Fast of Ramadan strict restraints are placed on the daily lives of Muslims. They are not allowed to eat or drink during the daylight hours. Smoking and sexual relations are also forbidden during fasting. At the end of the day the fast is broken with prayer and a meal called the iftar.

Iftar; The food eaten immediately after sunset to break fast
The body's immediate need at the time of iftar is to get an easily available energy source in the form of glucose for every living cell, particularly the brain and nerve cells. Dates and juices are good sources of sugars.

Suhour; The light meal generally eaten about half an hour to one hour before dawn.

Some Advices:

-- Eat in moderation.
Eat simple, healthy foods in small quantities.
Include variety for a balanced diet that includes breads, meats, dairy, fruits and vegetables.
Limit sweets. Fruit jams, fruit & nut bars and dried fruits are good choices.

-- Eat for Satiety.
Choose nutrient-dense foods that promote satiety especially at Suhur. Include dairy drinks, cheeses, meat, luncheon meats, nuts and healthy fats (olives, olive oil).

-- Stay Hydrated.
Make water and juice your preferred drinks.
Choose fluid-containing foods such as soups, juices, fruits, melons, vegetables, and dairy drinks
Limit sodium (salt) as it increases the body’s need for water.
Avoid caffeine, which is dehydrating.

-- Limit Physical Activity.
Engage in light activity 1-2 hours after eating, when your body has been refreshed with nutrients and energy.

Algunos consejos:

-- Come con moderación.Come simples, comidas sanas en pequeñas cantidades.

-- Come para saciar.

Ramadan (1)

Assalamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh

7 Suhour foods that you should avoid.

7 Comidas para suhour que deberías evitar.

Sugar-loaded foods:
Not only are those high in calories, foods with high sugar content are digested fast and increase your blood sugar levels, which leave you feeling hungry.

Caffeine:
Sure, the first thing you want to reach to after iftar is that cup of coffee or tea, but caffeine is a diuretic which means it stimulates the process of excreting water and so it will leave you feeling thirsty.

Pastries:
A croissant for sohour won't do because it has about zero fibers and is bound to cause sudden insulin increases, leaving you hungry right after consumption.

Pasteles:

Kiddy-Corner Celeals:
While some cereals are loaded with fibers (like Muesli or Fitness from Nestle), many others are high on simple carbs and sugar (the likes of Cheerios). Avoid the kiddy-corner cereals and opt for whole grain brands instead.

Salty foods:
There, needless to say, we hope, leave you feeling thirsty the next day. So avoid things like sardines or adding loads of salt to your iftar or sohour meals.

Comidas saladas:

Deep fried foods:
Avoid sambousek or french fries for sohour as deep frying leaves you bloated and feeling heavy. Bake your potatoes, if you must, instead.

Comidas fritas:

Spicy foods:
Spicy food will leave you feeling thirsty, so don't add chili to your food over sohour.

Comidas picantes:
