Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh
Let's start for some important definitions.
FEMINISM- Women and men who fight for women's rights and against women's discrimination. It states that the rights of women must be the same to the men for the simple fact of being an human being.
EXTREME FEMINISM- when women discriminate men just for being men saying they are fighting for our rights, the opposite to it is "male chauvinism"
MALE CHAUVINISM- or what is the same, when men (and women) discriminate women just for the fact of being woman. They think they are superior because they are men and they have more rights for this or that women don't have rights at all.
MISOGYNY- Deep hate (can lead to the desire of killing, even doing it) to the female gender just for being female.
People normally confuse the two first terms "feminism" and "extreme feminism" calling feminism to the second one which is really wrong. Women do that and men as well.
The purpose of feminism is getting the equality in the society between women and men and not discriminating one just for their gender.
For example, in an office, for a woman to get a higher status in the company she needs to work double than men having the same capacities (shown in the curriculum), why? If both have the same capacity to do it why she has to work twice as harder to get the same reward? Also it can be seen in the salary, in some jobs, a man would get more salary for the same position than a woman, why? This is discrimination and this is what feminism pretends to fix.
That's just an example of many.
Where we see this in our daily lifes?
Well I see it when a man talks and he is automatically respected and his words are taken as true but if is a woman who does so she is doubted, why?
Any can be wrong, any can lie, any can have a lot of knowledge or have none, we have to judge them equally not based on their gender.
Or not judge at all, that's even better, but in some cases it's necessary (job interview), when this happen, judge for what they can do, for the facts, not for how they look like (male or female)
There are many other ways of discrimination hidden in our society, they are seen as normal because "that's how it has always been" but it's discrimination. Too long to explain and it would deviate the topic, but one I would like to mention is the "vocabulary" no one pay attention to it but it discriminate the female gender.

Getting back to the main topic.
The feminism just want that women get treated fair, this wouldn't exist if the humans rights were respected fully and not depending on the gender, this started years back when women in the west didn't even have the right to study. The revolution at that time to claim their right for education is what started the feminism movement which improved the situation considerably. Still there are so much to do but it's also true that it is going out of control at times.
Putting this topic on the field of Islam. Allah gave women a lot of rights more than 1400 years ago when only 90 years ago women in the west had basically none, and 50 years ago things started to change.
What's the problem in the muslim community? Well that most of them are not educated, some women doesn't know their rights so they can't see when they are being oppressed and many men either don't know or don't want to know that women are not slaves or object that they can handle as they wish, we are human beings and that's written by Allah in the Quran and advised by the Prophet Muhammad (salla allahu allahi wa salam) in numerous hadiths. Who dares to question the women's rights commanded by Allah Himself? Fear Allah.
"I shall not lose sight of the labor of any of you who labors in My way, be it man or woman; each of you is equal to the other" (Quran 3:195)
"Verily for all men and women who have surrendered themselves unto God, and all believing men and believing women, and all truly devout men and truly devout women, and all men and women who are true to their word, and all men and women who are patient in adversity, and all men and women who humble themselves before God, and all men and women who give in charity, and all self-denying men and self-denying women, and all men and women who are mindful of their chastity, and all men and women who remember God unceasingly: for all of them has God readied forgiveness of sins and a mighty reward." (Quran 33:35)
And fear Allah too when you demand something that doesn't belong to you.
Feminism in the muslim world wouldn't exists if only men would respect women exactly how Islam teaches. So it is right when women stand up, demanding for what Allah gave them because it's the right thing to do, we can't settle for less than we deserve in certain cases. Mainly when coming to human rights, self improvement, dignity and self respect. This is unconditional. Every woman should do that, we are not under anyone, no one is above us, only Allah is and He spoke and granted us marvellous rights to use as we like, use them. (Without contradicting the other teachings of Islam of course)
However, it becomes a problem when we demand more than we should, same for men, they can't demand more than what has been established for them.
Remember, your freedom ends when someone's else freedom begins. We have to respect that.
And Allah knows best.
empezaron a cambiar.
Teme a Allah.

ReplyDeletethat is an awesome article.
labels and banners are creating problems because in the end people are assigning their own meaning to such words, and then begins the mud slinging..
for example if I am standing up against oppression of women so someone is going to complain that i am a troublesome feminist who is being defensive, so what is different..
if i stand up against child abuse will i get called a troublesome paed-ist or if i stand up against abuse of animals then should i be called a troublesome animal-ist? or is it that anyone who makes any kind of stand is simply troublesome.
I tend to focus more on the justice and effort to correct oppressions and less on the labels..
manners, not banners.
Wa iyyak!
DeleteThanks for reading it!
Exactly! Seems like if we stand for what is right we are judged so heavely, what should we do? Sit and watch how we become in modern slaves? No way!
Thought I had to clear this points, big or little it might make a difference in shaa Allah still people keep talking without any knowledge.
